Two-day trial set for James Smith chief on impaired driving charge

Jul 10, 2023 | 9:31 AM

Two days have been set aside in Melfort Provincial Court for an impaired driving charge against Calvin Sanderson.

He will be tried in Melfort Provincial Court on November 2 and 3.

Sanderson was charged on March 10 by RCMP members conducting proactive patrols in the community.

He was pulled over as part of a traffic stop and, following the officer’s observations, an impaired driving investigation commenced.

So far, Sanderson has declined to comment on the charges.

He was one of three chiefs of James Smith when Myles Sanderson attacked dozens of people in James Smith, killing 11 and wounding many others. Myles Sanderson died the day he was arrested while fleeing towards Saskatoon.
