Host Tyler Janzen ready to connect communities through country radio

Jun 1, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Tyler Janzen is passionate about local radio. He’s been on the airwaves across western Canada since 2017.

“It’s about connecting with people – not just through great music, but also with what’s happening in and around their communities.”

Now Janzen is sharing that passion across his home province as the host of a new show on 900 CKBI radio – Saskatchewan Country Afternoons.

Starting June 1, the program will run weekdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will feature the most popular country music plus local interaction online and on the air.

“I think the reach across the province is going to be really awesome and should help bring us together in a way because we’ll be connecting through music and talking about the same things,” said Janzen.

While the show will be available on other Pattison Media AM radio stations in Saskatchewan, including CJNB in North Battleford and CJVR in Melfort, the topics and content will be specific to each local market.

“One of the biggest goals we have as a programming team is to create local content. We want to make sure we are reflecting our communities and the best thing we can do as a radio host is hold up a mirror to what is happening at home…whether that’s details on road construction or weather causing a delay for ball practice,” said Pattison Media program director Nic Fransoo. “We want to make sure we reflect those things to our listeners in the most local and engaging way. And across the province, we’ll have that opportunity with Tyler and the new technology we’re bringing you.”

The new programming technology will allow Janzen to interact with listeners in each place through text- lines, calls and requests.

“We may even hit the road to highlight people, places and events happening in communities across the province,” said Janzen.

And Janzen promises there will be some laughs along the way as well. Tune in to Saskatchewan Country Afternoons every weekday for great country music, local interaction and news and information from where you live.

Editor’s note: CKBI is part of Pattison Media which also operates paNOW.
