Not guilty pleas entered by man at centre of standoff with police

A man facing a number of charges including attempted murder, flight from police, robbery, and break-and-enter, has entered a number of not guilty pleas and opted to face trial.

Colten Michael Lafond was arrested in March, following a near eight hour standoff with Prince Albert police in the city’s crescent heights area.

Back in January, Lafond was one of two men charged after a standoff and robbery at Muskoday First Nation. A bottle of alcohol was stolen and the victim reported non-life threatening injuries. That charge has been scheduled for trial on Aug. 16.

The attempted murder charge has to do with an incident from the morning of March 17, while Lafond was out on bail.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 700 Block of Branion Drive for a report of a weapons complaint, involving a male who had been shot in the head at a nearby residence. That matter has been committed for trial at Court of King’s Bench and a date may be set during a pre-trial conference on May 19.

The break-and-enter charge from March 18, has been scheduled for trial on Sept 18.

Lafond’s charges relating to the stand-off, have been adjourned to May 17 to be spoken to. And a number of other charges relating to breaching court ordered conditions, will be spoken to on Aug. 16.
