Cause of large fire near Spruce Home still unknown

The cause of a large fire near Spruce Home, north of Prince Albert, is still under investigation.

On Saturday, Buckland Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze but needed help from the Lakeland Fire Department and the Prince Albert Fire Department to get it under control.

“The biggest issue was water supply… there are no hydrants there, so no water,” said Paul See, Buckland’s Fire Chief. “We called in tanker trucks, two tankers from Lakeland and one from Prince Albert.”

Due to the dry conditions in the area, members of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) stationed in P.A. were also called to help prevent the fire from becoming a grass fire or wildfire.

“Our main goal was to keep the fire in the yard, and we arrived on scene we had fire spreading to the west and the north,” added See.

In total, three structures and multiple vehicles were lost. A large portion of the property was also burnt after the blaze went from the structures and turned into a vegetation fire.

It took everyone around two hours to get it under control with the last crew members leaving about six hours later after ensuring all hot spots were dealt with.

No one was hurt in the fire.
