More improvements begin at Little Red River Park

It will be a busy spring and summer time for those working on several projects and improvements at Little Red River Park.

The City of Prince Albert announced on Monday that several improvements are starting at the park including the finishing touches on the Rotary Adventure Park and Zipline.

Other projects include improvements to the main road from Highway 55 to the Cosmopolitan Lodge as well as additional parking.

The parking area at the Toboggan Hill will see some finishing work as well and a warmup shelter will soon be installed near the lodge.

“We definitely recognize that there’s a need during the winter for user groups to be able to go and warm up,” said Tim Yeaman, Parks and Open Spaces Manager.

He noted as work continues on these projects, visitors to the park should be careful when driving and walking about.

“We are going to have workers out there; they will be out there with their equipment. Just ask that you keep your distance, allow them to do their work so we can get through this as quickly as possible.”

He added there are no closures planned for areas of the park but if that changes, they will give enough notice.

As for when the improvements will finish, Yeaman is hopeful it will be finished by July, if not sooner. He understands though that like last year, different factors can delay construction.

“It’s better to proceed with a little bit of caution because weather plays a factor, so does staffing shortages,” he said. “Right now, we are in good shape. Everybody is on-site, and I think we’re going to be in a good position to finish this as quickly as possible.”

Once completed, the new addition to the park will feature zip lines, swings, and additional play structures. There will also be added picnic sites, benches, and a shelter along with expanded walking trails to provide activities for toddlers, as well as adults and seniors.
