U14 Bananas win gold at provincials

Prince Albert’s U14 Smashing Bananas squad was nearly perfect this past weekend at provincials, winning gold and only losing one game along the way.

The one-day tournament was held at Saskatoon’s Henk Ruys soccer centre.

After going 1-2 in their respective pool, the Bananas faced Husky Premier in the first round of playoffs and won 25-9, 25-19.

They they went on to beat Meadow Lake (25-13,8-25,15-11), before facing a tough La Loche Lakers team in the final.The Lakers had been the team to beat the Bananas earlier.

This time however, the Bananas prevailed and won two straight sets by scores of 25-20.

The U14 Bananas Black squad also competed in Warman but did not medal.

On the women’s side, the U14 Toppers En Fuego and Esprit teams both competed, but lost out in the playoff rounds.

The U18 Provincials are scheduled for this upcoming weekend in Warman.
