A man accused of murdering his brother will be tried by a judge and jury at Melfort Court of King’s Bench.

That was the outcome of a brief hearing Monday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Nicholas David Bear, 23 is facing a charge of second-degree murder, following the death of Nickison Bear in December 2021.

On the morning of the incident, police received a call about a seriously injured man in Sandy Bay. Nickison Bear was brought to a health clinic and later died.

Nicholas was arrested without incident later that day.

A preliminary inquiry hearing was initially scheduled for Monday, but the defence instead agreed to commit the case directly to trial.

A total of ten days have been set aside for the trial, which will start April 22, 2024.
