Apr 24, 2023 | 5:52 PM

A fire on Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head, Lean Man First Nation has burnt down an entire multiplex.

The blaze started in the building Monday afternoon and created a grassfire that has since spread to the west of the community.

“(Firefighters) are still trying to contain it at the moment,” said Chief Tanya Stone.

Seven families were living in the multiplex, while one apartment was being used by a single person. Stone didn’t have an exact number for how many were displaced, only stating there were quite a few children.

The First Nation’s leadership is working on finding temporary housing for everyone impacted.

They currently have a meeting planned for Monday night and have already been in contact with several organizations.

“We have Red Cross, the Nation, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations involved, we also have Indigenous Services Canada.”

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated.
