P.A. & North Battleford among communities getting funding for EMS positions

Prince Albert and North Battleford are getting funding from the province to add multiple emergency medical services (EMS) positions.

The Government of Saskatchewan announced earlier this week that around $3.5 million is being allocated in the latest budget to create 33 full-time jobs.

Parkland Ambulance, which provides paramedic service to Prince Albert and surrounding areas, will be able to add five positions.

“We applaud the government for that funding and thank them,” said Lyle Karasiuk, spokesperson for Parkland Ambulance.

He didn’t have any information on when these positions will be filled.

As for North Battleford, the city will be getting funding to support three positions.

Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Health said it’ll be up to them if they want to hire brand new people or have any part-time staff become full-time workers.

“Our EMS staff will be better supported and equipped to provide the best possible care to the people of Saskatchewan,” said John Ash, Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA) Vice-President, Provincial Clinical and Support Services. “Patients, especially those in rural areas, will have a more stabilized EMS service and quicker access to our healthcare teams.”

Meanwhile, La Ronge is getting funding to support at least one full-time position.

Other communities benefitting from the province’s funding include Lloydminster, Buffalo Narrows, Hudson Bay, Nipawin, Porcupine Plain, and Wakaw.
