Three running for LLRIB chief, nominees acclaimed in Hall Lake and Sucker River

Three candidates are running for chief in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) election on March 30.

The official list of qualified candidates was approved on Monday following nomination meetings last week. Tammy Cook-Searson is running for re-election for chief and she will be up against Bruce Fredrick McKenzie and John P. Roberts.

Councillor candidates for Lac La Ronge are Roger Beatty, Michael Bird, Nina Bird, Leon Charles, Anita Cook, Samuel Hardlotte, Robert McKenzie, Percy Mirasty, Ann Ratt, Dean Roberts, Sam Roberts, Terry Ross, Dennis Sanderson and Cheryline Venne.

Councillor candidates in Stanley Mission are Jimmy Charles, Larry Charles, Linda Charles, Robin McKenzie, Angus McLeod, Andrew Roberts and Moses Isiah Roberts.

Councillor candidates in Little Red River are David Charles, Tom Cook, Jerry Halkett, John Halkett, Keith Mirasty and Robert Mirasty. Councillor candidates in Grandmother’s Bay are Clifford McKenzie and Gerald McKenzie.

Norman Ross has been acclaimed in Hall Lake and Devin Bernatchez has been acclaimed in Sucker River.

Advance polls will be held on March 22 and the general election day on March 30. Electronic voting, which is occurring for the first time in a general election, begins at 10 a.m. on March 18 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on March 29.
