Bears drop final regular season game in shootout loss to Sharks

Mar 5, 2023 | 5:55 PM

BATTLEFORD, SK – The Prince Albert Northern Bears wrapped up their regular season Sunday afternoon but not in the way they were hoping for.

The Bears fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Battlefords Sharks at Battleford Arena.

Annika Neufeldt managed 42 saves for the Bears where they finished the campaign with a 9-18-1-2 record.

Taylor Enns got the win in the game, also making 42 stops to help the Sharks finish the season at 2-25-3-0.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Sasha Malenfant got PA on the board first midway through the opening period with Claudia Lammers and Kelsey Ledoux registering the assists on the play.

However, the tides shift in the second as Cassidy Peters and Gabrielle Zaleschuk scored in the frame to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead going into the third. Mia Weber, Alyson Hockley, and Alexie Palchinski each collected helpers.

But the Bears didn’t quit. PA was short-handed in the back half of the period and Jasmine Kohl connected with Julia Cey who came up clutch and tied it for the Black and Orange.

Overtime solved nothing so to a shootout we went.

Battlefords only needed three shooters to win the contest with Zaleschuk and Peters scoring to help the Sharks win the shootout 2-0.

Prince Albert now prepares themselves for round one of the playoffs where they’re set to faceoff against the Notre Dame Hounds. Game one is on Friday at Notre Dame with puck drop happening at 7:30 p.m.
