Fire burns East Flat home

The cause of a fire Thursday night in Prince Albert’s East Flat neighbourhood, is currently under investigation.

Around 9:30 p.m., fire crews responded to the 1200 block of First St. E.

Fire crews arrived on scene and had heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a single story home.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire from the exterior before making entry and completing a search of the building.

Meanwhile, nearby residents were asked to temporarily vacate their homes, including a woman who was home with her three young children. The windchill at the time -40 C.

“Thankfully my neighbour opened her door when she [saw] us,” she said.

The extent of the damage is also unclear however based on pictures taken on Friday, appeared significant. (Nigel Maxwell/paNOW Staff)

There were no injuries reported. Another neighbour told paNOW a young man lived in the home alone.
