Blades steamroll Raiders 9-0

Dec 10, 2022 | 10:15 PM

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Saskatoon Blades came into Prince Albert on a business trip, and business is what they took care of.

The Blades throttled the Raiders 9-0 at the Art Hauser Centre where Brandon Lisowsky had three, Lukas Hansen and Egor Sidorov each had two, and Connor Roulette and Vaughn Watterodt each tallied one. Saskatoon also had nine different assist getters in the game.

The loss is the second in as many games for PA when they fell 3-2 to the Regina Pats last night.

When asked what the team needs to do to prepare for the next game, head coach Jeff Truitt said the team needs to hit the reset button and start back at the beginning.

“We didn’t execute,” he said. “We didn’t get anything from a lot of our guys but, in the same token, you got to understand that positionally the puck moved pretty quickly here tonight and we were late at times. So, how do we reset? We need to head right back to square one and get prepared for our next two games (of the homestand).”

Tikhon Chaika and Max Hildebrand both combined for 32 saves on the night as PA falls to 10-18-2-0 on the campaign.

Austin Elliot stopped all 25 shots he faced to collect his second shutout of the season and to help Saskatoon improve to 21-5-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Slow and sluggish starts continued to plague the Raiders this season and Saskatoon took full advantage of that. The Blades hung four goals on PA in the period with Sidorov potting two, and Lisowsky and Hansen each scoring once. Not only did Saskatoon lead 4-0 after the first, they also led the Raiders in shots 20-6.

Things continued to trend downward for the Raiders in the second with the Blades continuing to pile on the goals. Saskatoon added three more in the middle frame when Roulette, Lisowsky, and Hansen each lit the lamp to extend their lead to seven. After the seventh goal was scored, Chaika was pulled from the game and replaced with Hildebrand. The Blades continued to lead shot clock after the second, 31-17.

Lisowsky went on to complete the hat-trick in the third period, while Watterodt added one more midway through the frame as the Blades took the win.

The Raiders will look to rebound in their next game when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers for the final time this season Wednesday night.
