WINNIPEG, MB – The Prince Albert Raiders nearly made an epic comeback against one of the country’s best teams on Saturday night, but were ultimately outplayed in the final minutes where they fell 6-4 against the Winnipeg ICE.

Conor Geekie had two goals in the contest including the game winner which came with less that three minutes left in the game. Matthew Savoie also had two goals, while Zach Benson and Ben Zloty also scored. Additionally, the ICE had seven different assist-getters in the game.

For the Raiders, all their goals were scored by different players. Brayden Dube, Sloan Stanick, Carson Latimer, and Ryder Ritchie all lit the lamp while Ritchie, Cole Peardon, Evan Herman, Keaton Sorensen, and Niall Crocker each potted helpers.

Max Hildebrand made 25 saves for PA where they now fall to 10-15-2-0 on the campaign.

Mason Beaupit collected 21 stops for the ICE where Winnipeg improves to 23-4-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Winnipeg wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Geekie scored his 14th of the year to put the ICE up just three minutes in.

Just over ten minutes later and the Raiders got it back. Peardon set up Ritchie for the shot which was stopped by Beaupit, but Dube was sitting right on the doorstep to put away the loose puck to tie it.

Less than 20 seconds later however and the ICE regained the lead. Zloty connected with Benson on the rush who fired it past Hildebrand. Then three minutes after that, Savoie would find the back of the net where Winnipeg led PA 3-1 after one.

The Raiders went to work in the second however, scoring 22 seconds into the middle period. Herman fed a cross ice pass to Stanick who sent a shot high past the ICE netminder to pull it back to a one goal game. Zloty would change that six minutes later when he found the back of the net for his second point of the night.

In the dying seconds of the frame, Latimer found a hole in the Winnipeg defense and converted for his eighth goal of the season where the ICE lead 4-3 going into the third.

Midway through the frame and the Raiders powerplay unit pulled through when Sorensen found Ritchie who scored his second goal in as many games to tie it back up.

Later in the period though, the ICE powerplay found a way to score. Geekie potted his second of the night to put Winnipeg back on top. Savoie added another almost immediately after which put the game out of reach for PA as the Raiders fell 6-4.

The green and gold are back at home for their next contest when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night.
