Ambitious goal for this year’s Salvation Army fundraiser

The Prince Albert Salvation Army is hoping to raise $100,000 this year during its annual Christmas kettle campaign.

Major Ed Dean, who heads the Communities Ministry, said that all of the money they raise is spent in the Prince Albert area.

“We’re serving 170 meals, three times a week, so a lot of those funds will go directly into funding those meals,” Dean said.

The requests have increased this year and as of Wednesday morning, 550 families had applied for toy hampers, a significant increase over last year’s total of 297.

This is also the first year the applications have been available online, he said.

As usual, they are looking for help with the kettles.

“We are looking for about 75 volunteers that are willing to share an hour or two of their time with the community to ring bells at numerous locations throughout the city to help raise funds for the Salvation Army in Prince Albert and area,” said Dean.

There will be more kettles this year because the need is higher this year and the remainder are scheduled to go out tomorrow.
