Snowfall warnings, special weather statements in place in Saskatchewan

The winter storm that was building in Alberta early Tuesday is officially on its way to Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for areas of Saskatchewan, with 10 to 15 centimetres expected in areas around Lloydminster, Kindersley, Rosetown, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Meadow Lake, Big River, the Battlefords, Unity and Shellbrook.

The snow is expected to fly starting Wednesday morning.

“A low-pressure system from Montana will move into southern Saskatchewan bringing heavy snowfall with the risk of freezing rain,” the warning read. “Snowfall will begin (Tuesday) evening, however, the heaviest snowfall will begin Wednesday morning where 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected throughout the day into Wednesday night.”

The snow is expected to taper off Thursday morning.

The weather service also issued a special weather statement for regions across the central part of the province, including Saskatoon, Warman, Melfort and Tisdale. A statement also was in place for the Swift Current area.

The weather service reminded people to prepare for changing driving conditions and reduced visibility.
