Not guilty pleas entered in Prince Albert stabbings case

Oct 31, 2022 | 2:00 PM

A man charged after two separate stabbing incidents in Prince Albert, has entered not guilty pleas and will face trial.

Reno Keenatch, 26, was not present when his matters were spoken to Monday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

The case has been committed for trial by judge alone at Court of King’s Bench. Before that happens though, a preliminary inquiry will be held on Dec. 21.

The purpose of the one-day hearing is to allow the judge the opportunity to hear the Crown’s evidence and determine if it is fact strong enough to proceed to trial.

On Aug.19, police were dispatched to a report of a stabbing at a multi-unit residential building in the 500 block of 28th St. E. A 26-year-old woman was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Later that day, police received a report of a second stabbing and responded to the area of 28th St. E. and Sixth Avenue. A 63-year-old man was taken to hospital.

In connection to the two incidents, Keenatch is facing two charges of aggravated assault and one count of breach of probation. His mother attended Monday’s brief hearing.
