Sources report stabbing suspect, Myles Sanderson, is dead

There are reports Myles Sanderson is dead.

Law enforcement sources told paNOW the stabbing suspect may have overdosed after his arrest on Hwy 11 Wednesday afternoon near Rosthern.

A media conference is to be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at RCMP headquarters in Regina.

Sanderson was captured after RCMP vehicles forced the stolen truck he was driving off the highway. Shortly before that, police had issued an emergency alert saying he had been spotted in a stolen vehicle in the Wakaw area.

Sanderson is the suspect in the murders of 10 people Sunday — nine on the James Smith Cree Nation and one in the nearby community of Weldon. There also were 18 people hurt; 10 of them remain in hospital, with two in critical condition. The body of his brother Damien Sanderson, who was also an initial suspect in the case, was discovered Monday on James Smith Cree Nation.

Myles Sanderson was charged by police with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of break and enter. Before his body was found, Damien Sanderson had been charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of break and enter.
