A Prince Albert organization marked 100 years in the community with a big event this past weekend.

The Prince Albert Elks Lodge #58 marked its centennial throughout the month of August, and while they have had some private celebrations, they decided they wanted to open up those outside the lodge.

“We decided we would like to reach out to the public,” said Secretary-Treasurer Grant Ursaki. “We decided we would have a family fun day. We can have fun and if they’d like to join the Elks and have some fun too then that’s great.”

Ursaki estimates they had about 180 people show up on Saturday afternoon for the festivities which featured food and children’s activities, along with a visit from members of the Prince Albert police.

The Elks in Prince Albert was initiated on August 11, 1922. It received its charter 10 years after the Elks of Canada was formed.

The Elks of Canada is a volunteer organization promoting various needs within its community.

Ursaki said they have committed to many needs in Prince Albert including helping those in need of cochlear implants and helping with the needs of seniors’ homes in Prince Albert.

The organization normally breaks for the summer and will be meeting soon to talk about what events they will carry out for the fall and winter.

In the meantime, Ursaki said there’s one way the community can help them.

“We’d like them to come out to Bingos on Sunday night, at Carnival Bingo because that’s where we do all our fundraising for our charitable giving.”
