A woman accused of coordinating a drug trafficking operation at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre, wiped away tears, after being denied bail.

Tara Bird, 32, appeared Monday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court, via video from Pine Grove Correctional Centre.

The investigation dates back to the summer of 2020 and involved drugs being tossed over the fence. It’s alleged Bird was assisting a local street gang with the operation.

As a result of one intercepted drop, four separate small bags of meth were seized as well as cocaine, tobacco and pills.

Bird who was neither an inmate, nor a staff member, was at one time granted a stay of proceedings but the Federal Crown has brought the charges back, citing new information.

In addition to the trafficking charges, Bird also faces a number of gun related charges from a separate matter, and is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the death of Dylan Chretien in late 2019.

Bird was released from custody in March but arrested again after allegedly failing to report to a probation officer, and allegedly failing to attend court. All her matters are back in court on Sept. 6.
