Lucky winner drives away with Summer Free Ride

Scott Hurl from Prince Albert was the lucky winner of the Summer Free Ride contest with Pattison Media Ltd.

“Its kinda funny cause when I left home, I told my wife I was going to win the truck, so now I get to phone her and tell her I won the truck and she won’t believe me,” Hurl said.

Throughout the summer, all three radio stations in Prince Albert held live-on-location events where people could enter to win.

“We had over 10-thousand entries total,” said program director Danny Kid. “One person from each live-on-location was pulled to be here today so we had 101 official qualifiers.”

Whoever had their name called at the event Saturday afternoon pulled a key from a bag and tried to open a locked box holding the key to the truck. More than two-thirds of the keys had been tried before Hurl’s name was called. He had participated in this contest in previous years without any luck.

Hurl said he entered three or four times this year and one of those locations was at Knotty Pine Bistro at Little Red River Park, which just happened to be the same location of Saturday afternoon’s contest finale.

Hurl’s prize package includes a 2007 Nissan Titan, fully restored with new rims, tires, glass, running boards, re-upholstered seats and console and an updated radio and sound system.

“Our sponsors totally tricked this out. It’s painted cherry black and looks amazing in the sun. The prize package also includes a kayak, Traeger barbeque and a $500 meat package,” said Kid.

Hurl said he and his wife will likely use the kayak at their seasonal spot at the lake, but not before he celebrates his big win.

“I think I’m gonna have to invite some friends over and have a good time.”
