Buses back on schedule, city says

Aug 26, 2022 | 12:12 PM

With all six newly purchased city buses now in service, the transit department said that the system is back to its more reliable schedule effective immediately.

All routes are operating normally, said the city in a statement today, adding that there is still a plan in case of emergency shortages.

“In case of emergency shortages, a mitigation plan has been made that allows for hourly transit service. This is done to maximize service to all locations in the city,” read the statement.

The digital GPS tracking system is also back online and riders can check their route status here.

As of Tuesday, the rush hour route will be expanded, partly to accommodate high school students from Saskatchewan Rivers Public Schools Division.

This is the first school year that high school students from the public system will not have school buses for rides and will instead be offered a discounted bus pass as a way to get to class.

Because of that, the city transit system will now have expanded service on Central Avenue and 28th Street East.

Three buses will service Carlton School and the travel time from the transfer station to the school there has been reduced from 19 minutes to eight minutes.

The city also said that even should a bus be out of service, they will still run two buses to Carlton every half hour.

In order to help students get used to the system and to introduce the new fleet, the city is offering free transit on Sept. 1.

This allows all to try city transit for free to start the school year. High school student subsidized bus passes are available at Carlton, St. Mary’s, Wesmor, and Prince Albert Collegiate Institute for $20 a month.

The new route map and transit updates are posted on the city’s website.
