Sidewalk Sale

Sidewalk sale and more planned for Central Avenue

The weather was feeling cooperative for the Prince Albert Street Fair along Central Avenue in June. This weekend, the Downtown Business Improvement District is hoping for similarly favorable weather for another event.

A sidewalk sale is on the schedule for Saturday along Central Avenue in Prince Albert. With kids’ bike races (tracked on radar by the Prince Albert Police Service to see how fast they’re going) and numerous other events, it’s shaping up to be a festive day for those looking to get outdoors and enjoy the summer weather.

“I’m quite excited for the afternoon,” said Rhonda Trusty, executive director of the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District. “We have, of course, the farmer’s market, at 8:00 AM that goes until 1:00 PM. And we have Desiree Hesson with The S2DIO coming out to Memorial Square. Her and her crew are going to do a demonstration and make some noise.”

Gateway Mall’s stores will be taking part in the afternoon as well, adding to what will certainly be an atmosphere of hustle and bustle. But more than that, the sidewalk sale seems to be building up to more of a street fair atmosphere than a retail opportunity.

“I’m just trying to add a different element to the sidewalk sale,” Trusty said, “Just to have some fun and some live music and create a vibe and an atmosphere here where people can come and sit outside and enjoy some live music. If they want to grab something from one of the restaurants or the farmer’s market, it just adds another element of participation in the community.”

Participation is a watchword for the day, and many members of the community are participating. From the Historical Society to the Prince Albert Police Service to Fresh Air Experience, many different groups came together to make the day a big one.

“Parkland Ambulance will be in attendance and just encouraging the community and the retailers to take part,” Trusty said. “It’s just everybody working together and really focusing on family and facts.”

Trusty added that with two years of COVID it was nice to be able to have large events outdoors again including live music. She also said the DBID had been able to have some events during the pandemic, but with restrictions now gone, those events become much more enjoyable.
