Royals player recognized with Baseball Sask. Award of Merit

Jul 12, 2022 | 9:00 AM

Before a U15AA game in Meadow Lake on Sunday, Prince Albert’s Logan Edwards was presented with the Joe McDonald Special Award of Merit from Baseball Sask officials.

In July 2021, Edwards and his team were in Lloydminster where during a routine hitting warm-up, he lost track of a line drive and missed the ball.

The ball went passed his glove and hit him in his left eye, leaving him partially blind due to the scar tissue at the centre of his vision. Despite the injury, he said that he didn’t care about it and wanted to get back out on the field.

“My first thought was ‘I think I’m going to be blind,'” he said. “I just wanted to get rid of (the injury) and get back to sports.”

Because of his courage and resiliency to continue to play the game of baseball, Baseball Sask. recognized Edwards with the Special Award of Merit, something he said came as a surprise.

“It’s great to be recognized and it’s good to be appreciated,” he said. “I never thought that I would win it, I had no idea it was coming.”

Edwards and the U15AA Prince Albert Royals are set to head south to Saskatoon for Provincials this weekend.
