Prince Albert schools pitch in to help feed the city’s less fortunate

Jun 27, 2022 | 5:05 PM

From front to back, every seat on a 13-foot school bus has been filled with food.

The ambitious venture was a partnership between the Prince Albert Catholic school division and First Student bus. Organizer and bus driver Leanne Bear told paNOW she was moved by the support.

“Especially at the end of the school year and now much effort the schools and the teachers and all the staff and students put into it. It was amazing,” she said.

Even more emotional for Bear, were the comments she received from students as she drove from school to school Monday to make the pick-ups.

“At one point, one of the kids said we are a really caring bunch. We are caring youth and we care about our community and we want to help feed them,” Bear said, adding, that there was no one around to coach the children on what to say.

The participating schools included Holy Cross, St. Michael’s, St Anne, St Catherine and St Francis. The school board office itself also made a contribution to the cause. And in addition to the bags of food, St. John’s school also presented a $500 cheque.

Bear organized a similar fundraiser for the street fair and in addition to all the donations that were dropped off, Mann Northway gave $1,000.
