Vancouver Canucks hire former Panthers GM Dale Tallon as pro scout, senior adviser

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have hired former Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon as a professional scout and senior adviser.

The move comes nearly two years after the NHL received an anonymous report in August 2020 that Tallon had used racially derogatory language in the Toronto playoff bubble, and that he had openly made racial, religious and ethnic comments in the past.

The league hired Seyfarth Shaw LLP to look into the matter and said in October 2020 that the independent investigation could not substantiate the claims.

Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said on a video call Thursday that the team checked with the NHL before hiring Tallon and he reiterated that the former NHL defenceman had been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Vancouver has also hired Scott Young as director of player of personnel, Frank Golden as college free agent scout, and Dylan Crawford as video coach.

Abbotsford Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson has also been promoted to assistant general manager in addition to overseeing the American Hockey League team.
