Raiders’ Allan ‘honoured’ for shot at Canada’s World Junior roster

Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Nolan Allan is one step closer to achieving one of his dreams—to represent his country at the World Junior Championship.

Allan was named to Hockey Canada’s selection camp for July 23-27 in Calgary. The camp will start evaluating players to play in the 2022-23 World Juniors in Halifax and Moncton this upcoming holiday season.

“This is a goal that I want to work towards. It’s something that’s a huge honour for any junior player in Canada. It’s childhood dreams, there’s nothing better than that. It’s truly amazing to hopefully compete for one of those spots,” Allan said.

Like most hockey-playing kids, Allan tuned into the World Juniors at a young age while growing up in Davidson, well before getting drafted by a Saskatchewan-based team in the WHL. He remembers watching Regina’s Jordan Eberle, who then played for his hometown Pats, in the 2008-09 with all of the late drama and great talent on those teams.

Allan has already represented Hockey Canada in two different tournaments, winning gold in 2021 at the World U-18 Championship in Frisco, Texas. Allan was also on Canada Red at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge in 2020.

In his first two seasons, Allan seemed to focus more on his defensive side of his game, and was put into that role by the Raiders. But last season, Allan broke out offensively with seven goals and 41 points in 65 games for the Raiders, and got a lot of power play time and playing time with offensive maestro Landon Kosior.

“Defence is a big part of my game, it’s a strength. It’s something I’m known for, I guess,” Allan said. “I always want to improve parts of my game. It was nice to get put on the power play a little bit more and get into that situation and those opportunities to put up some numbers.
