Prince Albert Raiders goaltending coach Kelly Guard is getting some more time with the red maple leaf.

Guard is joining Hockey Canada’s U18 men’s team that will compete in the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup as the team’s goaltending coach.

Guard was a goaltending consultant in the U17 Capital City Challenge in Ottawa last year.

“We are extremely proud of Kelly, being in Prince Albert for eight years and having the great fortune to coach Kelly in Kelowna, it has been remarkable to see the growth in knowledge of the position and game and the rapid evolution of his coaching career.” Raiders head coach Marc Habscheid said in a statement.

“He deserves this position with Hockey Canada, and we know he will represent the Raiders and the City of Prince Albert well in this prestigious tournament”.

Raiders coaches have had a long history of representing Hockey Canada at the U18 level. Habscheid was an assistant coach at the 1999 tournament, Jeff Truitt was an assistant in 2007 and general manager Curtis Hunt was an assistant in both 2005 and 2006.
