SPCA looks for kitten and puppy food

Jun 6, 2022 | 11:00 AM

An increase in the number of kittens and puppies at the Prince Albert SPCA has led to a call for more food.

Having an increase in the number of animals in the spring is not unusual, says shelter manager Ashlee Bober.

“Come summer when the weather starts to warm up that’s when we’re definitely seeing a lot more come in. Hugely because people are outside in their yards and they’re seeing the strays,” Bober said.

Bober said that litters of kittens and puppies can range in size from one baby to 10, which leads to a lot of food consumption.

“We are having a shortage of kitten and puppy food. ‘Tis the season right now that we’re seeming to have a lot of small little young ones come into the shelter,” she said.

The shelter is looking for dry food, not wet food and they prefer not to have the Special Kitty brand of kitten food as it upsets the digestive system of some animals.

Also needed are cleaning supplies like towels and dish soap.

“Any contribution and any help is greatly appreciated in doing everything we can for these guys,” Bober said.
