Man charged after hotel room drug bust receives 18 month jail sentence

Jun 3, 2022 | 2:00 PM

A Prince Albert drug trafficking investigation has formally concluded with a sentencing hearing held Friday morning at Provincial Court.

Douglas Daniels, 29, received an 18-month sentence after entering a guilty plea to possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was caught with 30 g of cocaine.

With time spent in remand, Daniels has 17 months and 16 days remaining.

Describing Daniels’ role in the operation as minor, Judge F. Daunt told him the sentence may seem harsh, but reminded him that it was on the lower end of what he could be getting. Daunt encouraged Daniels to seek out treatment and counseling while in custody.

On Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, members of the Crime Reduction Team searched a hotel room in Prince Albert and found a large amount of methamphetamine and cocaine, drug packaging supplies, and functioning digital scales.

A total of four people were arrested and charged.

Ralph Morin, 24, was in court last January and received a four-year prison sentence for his respective role. The charges against Nikka Olson and Devon Daniels were stayed.
