Second Annual Shaye Amundson Memorial Tournament heading to P.A. this weekend
The Prince Albert ball community continues to rally around Shaye Amundson, now six years after her sudden passing.
The community has named a ballpark after her, created the ‘We Play for Shaye’ campaign, created a scholarship in her name, and are running the second annual Shaye Amundson Memorial Tournament from Friday to Sunday.
“Whenever the name ‘Shaye Amundson’ is brought up, I can certainly see the people on the board, the people that run the tournament, the families that are familiar with the Amundson’s, it’s certainly an important topic to them,” Prince Albert Minor Softball Association commissioner Steve Climenhaga said. “From the people I’ve talked to, Shaye was very passionate about softball and an excellent teammate. The family is still involved; some of the family plays, some coaches. They’re big supporters of PAMSA, they’re big supporters of this tournament.”
The tournament will field 21 teams across the U17, U15, U13, and U11 age divisions. Prince Albert will be represented by one Aces team in each division. All age groups will start play on Friday, with the exception of the U17 Aces. They will play their first game at 1 p.m. on Saturday against the Melfort Spirit.
