East Hill standoff resolves without incident

Jun 1, 2022 | 6:39 PM

The reason why police converged on a residence in Prince Albert’s East Hill neighbourhood Wednesday afternoon remains unknown, but the situation appears to have been resolved without incident.

Shortly before 3p.m. the Prince Albert Police Service advised of a heavy police presence in the 2600 block of second Ave. Around 5:20p.m. the last of the police vehicles were observed leaving the scene.

In a statement from city police, they’ve advised officers will remain in the area “for the time being” to collect evidence related to a search warrant.

During what appeared to be a standoff, officers were overheard telling someone presumably inside that they were under arrest and that if they followed directions, no would be hurt.

Police also advised they had a warrant to search the property and encouraged the person they were looking for to come out with their hands in the air.

The incident attracted a crowd of onlookers, but a large perimeter was established by police around the area.

Earlier in the afternoon, Robert Bratvold, Director of Education for the Sask. Rivers School Division, confirmed schools in the area were placed on “perimeter lockdown” meaning classes continued as usual, but the children did not go out for recess. He said there was no threat made to any school, and the measure was taken out of precaution.

This is a developing story. paNOW will have more information as it becomes available.
