Hiking for Hospice with help from hummingbirds
Olga Daschuk was easily the most stylish walker at the annual Hike for Hospice on Saturay at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.
The 87-year-old was ripping around the track with a custom-made walking stick with a blue hummingbird carved into the handle. The walking stick was also made out of cactus, a gift she received during her travels years ago in Mexico.
She didn’t really need the walking stick at the time she received it in Mexico, but it sure came in handy for Saturday’s event, to raise money for the Rose Garden Hospice.
“I’ve been walking ever since it started,” said Daschuk, who has been participating in the hike for all five years. “And I’ve been making perogies for the Rose Garden Hospice, I don’t take anything for ingredients or nothing. So we’ve done quite a few things ever since the start of the Rose Garden Hospice.”
