MELFORT, Sask. – Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) and Ministry of Agriculture opened a joint office in Humboldt, Sask on Tuesday.

The official ribbon cutting was done by Assistant deputy Minister of Agriculture Penny McCall and SCIC acting president and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Morrow.

“It’s not in every office that we do have the mix of SCIC and agriculture staff, however, where we do see it, and it’s a perfect example, that integration really does increase our ability to provide that client service and be that one stop shop,” McCall said.

SCIC has 21 offices in the province. Morrow said eight of those are combined with Ministry of Agriculture.

“We have a shared clients in the ag industry, producers, and agri businesses in the province,” Morrow said. “So, to just to have that ability and staff, to cover the whole thing from production to the risk management, forage crops, the whole gamut, I think, serves our producers very well.”

Six people work in the Humboldt office including Crops Extension Specialist Michael Brown, Agri-Environmental Specialist Hillary Luchinski, Range Management Extension Specialist Paige Straf, Livestock and Feed Extension Specialist Rikki Wilson, and regional services representatives Alicia Graf and Dawn Berger.

Bruce Huls is the SCIC manager.

“We basically cover just west of Bruno, north of St. Brieux and Yellow Creek area, south all the way down to Lanigan and east to Highway 35 between Wadena and Archerwill. It’s 12 RM’s,” Huls said.

Prior to the opening of the Humboldt office the ministry had an office in Watrous. Northern regional manager Chantal Jacobs said this event was an opportunity to highlight the team and check us out the programs available.

“We’re a one stop spot for producers when they come in the door. We’ve had so much fun learning with and from our crop insurance team here and it’s a really cohesive group,” Jacobs said. “When a producer comes in, they’ll stop at our crop specialists Mike’s office and then he’ll pop over and maybe talk to our field supervisor and they really exchange a lot of ideas.”

The new office is located at 2414 Westwood Drive.
