Charge laid in New Year’s Day murder

Nearly four months after a man was attacked during a house party, Prince Albert Police have made an arrest.

A 21-year-old is facing a charge of second degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Alex Whitehead. The accused will make his first court appearance Friday and his name cannot be released until then.

Whitehead died in hospital on New Year’s Day, after initially being found at a midtown residence suffering from life-threatening injuries.

According to a statement at the time from police, officers responded, just before 4 a.m., after a complaint of a weapons discharge.

Whitehead graduated from Meath Park school, and was an accomplished track athlete and basketball player. According to family, he was a caring young man who worked hard for the things he wanted.

Police have indicated their investigation is ongoing.
