Latest snowfall to hit P.A. not expected to be the last this spring

Will the latest snowfall to hit Prince Albert and surrounding areas be the last we’ll see this spring? Probably not.

That’s according to Jesse Wagar, a meteorologist with Environment Canada and Climate Change Canada, who told paNOW there’s a chance we could see more snow later this week.

However, it won’t be as bad as other areas in the province.

“Certainly not to the extent of what we’re expecting in the far southeast Saskatchewan, but I certainly wouldn’t say this is the last of the snow we’re going to see this spring.”

Communities in the southeast were recently hit by a blizzard and can expect more snow in the near future.

Wagar said snow in late April and even May isn’t unusual, however, we may see some colder temperatures a bit later than normal.

Thanks to cooler surface temperatures on the Pacific Ocean, 2022 is experiencing a ‘La Niña’ type weather pattern which causes longer stretches of cooler temperatures.

“We usually see snow a little bit later into the spring, usually see cooler temperatures which is what we’re expecting to see in the latter half of spring and into the first half of summer,” added Wagar.

The good news is the area will still see some warm spells.

The next one is expected to happen sooner rather than later.

“There is a bit of a rebound into the early period of next week, we’re looking at highs between 8 and 12 degrees,” said Wagar.

She noted it’s a bit harder to forecast farther out to determine how long the warmer weather will stick around.
