First Nations communities, RCMP, and search and rescue teams continue to look for missing five-year-old boy

UPDATE: Saskatchewan RCMP have reported on April 21, the search continues for Frank Young.

Yesterday an aerial search was conducted on the Red Earth Cree Nation with more planned for today. Also, the Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will dive in a body of water in the search area.

It’s been more than 24 hours since a five-year-old boy went missing from a Saskatchewan First Nation, but the search continues.

Officials with the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) provided an update on the search efforts Wednesday afternoon.

Frank Young was last seen at his home on Red Earth Cree Nation Tuesday around 12:30 p.m.

The PAGC search and rescue team is assisting with the efforts along with teams from Carrot River, Nipawin and other First Nations.

Vice-Chief of Red Earth Barry MacKay said they have had support from nearby communities.

“We have search teams that were dispatched, about 50 volunteers, both men and ladies were involved,” said PAGC Vice-Chief Barry MacKay. “We had people come in from Shoal Lake. They brought in their search teams and volunteers, as well as their firefighters.”

MacKay said community members began searching for the boy after he was reported missing. Their search eventually led to the nearby river. He said volunteers worked until the first day of the search was called off at 8:00 p.m.

The local search team restarted their search around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday with RCMP and the PAGC joining a few hours later.

Sgt. Richard Tonge from Carrot River RCMP said he was grateful for the number of search and rescue teams helping in the effort.

“Prince Albert, Porcupine Plaine, Wadena. I think there’s a total of eight, at this point, with trained search members here and assisting and working side by side with the RCMP and community members in this search.”

Tonge went on to say that RCMP has used night vision equipment and drones to help find Frank. He added an RCMP plane with a thermal camera will perform an aerial search of the area later today.

“We are searching in the community, where Frank was last seen yesterday, including a large rural area outside of the community, which includes heavily treed areas as well as bodies of water. Efforts include using everything from all-terrain vehicles and boats to thermal imaging, on-foot grid searches and more.”

He reiterated his plea to the public for any information that may help them in finding the missing boy.
