Editor’s note: Story was updated on April 27th to include Lehner’s video.

A woman who once dominated the running track in Prince Albert is continuing to pick up speed in her singing career.

Katelyn Lehner’s latest single Matter of Wine was dropped on Friday. It was co-written over ZOOM with Aaron Pollock, one of Lehner’s friends from Calgary.

“You know how you are just going though tough times and just grabbing a bottle of wine or glass of wine at the end of the day,” she said.

Within the lyrics are a number of fun wine references such as “Think it’s time I go, grab a glass of merlot,” or “chardonnay-in.” Since the release, Lehner said she has received lots of great feedback.

“And a few people have said, oh my gosh, this is my life right now. Thank you for putting this out,” she said, adding as much as the song is about going through a bad breakup, she hopes the wine references can also help lighten the mood and help people know things will be okay.

Later this week, a video to accompany the song will be shown during the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards show, where Lehner is also nominated for female artist of the year.

“Just to be nominated in this category this early in my career is really special,” she said.

During last year’s show, Lehner was named Emerging Artist of the Year, and not long after performed her first post-pandemic show in Regina, opening for country star Dean Brody. Last weekend, Lehner was in Vermillion and opened for Corb Lund.

“It was a sold out audience of over 2,200 people and honestly, since starting my career in the pandemic I really haven’t been able to be at an indoor show with that type of audience,” she said.

The SCMA awards show Saturday night will be shown virtually.
