P.A.’s Lehner wins USports national gold, two P.A. products win silver in relay
Prince Albert’s Karson Lehner has been dominant on the track in his conference over the past two years, winning the 300-metre gold medals in the last two Canada West finals. But now, Lehner can add national dominance to his resume.
On Friday, Lehner won the gold medal in his favoured 300-metre race at the USports Track and Field Championship in Saint John, N.B. Lehner ran a blazing 33.27 to claim the gold. Lehner beat University of Alberta’s Austin Cole, who set the 300-metre record of 32.89 in 2019. Cole finished as this year’s runner up, with University of Toronto’s Emmett Bravakis winning the bronze.
Lehner also added a silver in the 200-metre relay, as he and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies finished in second place in the men’s relay. Lehner led the Huskies’ foursome of Austin Edwards, Jacob Murphy, and fellow Prince Albert product Cole Frank, who teamed up to run 1:28.43. The U of A Golden Bears edged out the Huskies with a time of 1:26.73.
As a school, the Huskies’ men finished fourth all, while the women Huskies placed in second.
