Three weeks have been set aside in early 2023 for Keegan Nelson-Smith’s murder trial at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.

The Hall Lake man is facing a charge of second degree murder in the death of Muhammad Venne in June 2020.

At the conclusion of Friday’s pre-trial hearing, it was determined the judge and trial would take place March 6–24, 2023.

In the early morning hours of June 3, 2020, 29-year-old Muhammad Venne was found outside a home at Bell’s Point, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital by ambulance, but he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.

A couple months after his murder, a walk was held to bring awareness to the case.

Nelson-Smith was arrested in January of 2021.
