PROVINCIAL WINNERS

Local team on top of the world at cheerleading provincials

It was another impressive showing by a Prince Albert team at the Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association (SCA) Provincial Championships.

The U16 team with the Prince Albert Dance Company won the first place banner at the event this past weekend.

Founder of the Dance Company, Bethany Leachman said the team didn’t even realize they had won the top prize.

“They called their name, and the girls didn’t even realize what they were going up to get. So, they went up and received the banner and then as they turned around, they realized what that actually meant. I think they were in complete shock.”

She added the U12 team also had a great showing winning third in their group while the U6 team received a Mark of Excellence.

Now with provincials out of the way, Leachman is hoping they can continue to grow their club.

We started really small. It was our first year. We didn’t know what to expect. So, we’re hoping to really grow and use this year to keep practicing and moving forward. We’ve built quite a good relationship with PACE (Prince Albert Cheer Explosion) here in Prince Albert. They’ve been great to work with, we were able to practice at their location because the floor for cheer is quite different than dance.”

“Hopefully next year our teams will grow bigger, and we’ll be even stronger going into more competitions.”

The PACE All-Star Cheerleading Team also participated in the tournament with one member of the Surge team named Performer of The Day.
