THIRD JERSEY

‘I’m very happy’: Designer of new Raiders jersey can’t wait to see them on the ice

Mar 19, 2022 | 9:00 AM

On Saturday night, the Prince Albert Raiders will debut a new alternate jersey that has already been getting a ton of buzz from fans.

The jersey features a newly designed logo that’s modelled after the Raiders pirate head logo the team wore from 1996 to 2013.

The man behind the new look is Montreal-based graphic designer Alec Des Rivières.

Des Rivières has created many custom logos and uniform designs for E-Sports franchises and was ecstatic when the Raiders came to him after visiting his social media pages.

“I’m a fan of hockey, I know the CHL and most of their teams and it’s really cool for them to trust me with doing this.”

The jerseys will be worn only for Saturday’s game and be auctioned off online. Bidding has already started and will close at noon on March 19. Any jerseys not bought outright will be available in a silent auction in the Johnny Bower Lobby during the game.

Des Rivières said he can’t wait to see his design take the ice.

“It’s really cool to finally see something you made in real life. I don’t really see the results because I just send the design off and they do whatever they want with it or they print it.”

“They (Raiders) sent me a jersey, it’s in my room. It’s really cool to see. I saw photos of the pucks they’re going to use for the game. It’s really awesome.”

Since the jerseys were unveiled earlier this month, fans have reacted positively to the new look with many asking for them to be a permanent jersey for the team.

Comments like that bring nothing but joy to Des Rivières.

“I was reading a lot of the comments online and I saw a lot of positive ones that really made me happy.

“I’m really happy that the people love the jersey as much as they did and I was really happy to make that jersey for them and I’m happy I didn’t disappoint the fan base.”

The Raiders will don the new jersey as they host the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. and you can catch the action with Rob Mahon on 900 CKBI.
