MELFORT, Sask. — Saputo Inc. said it has been dealing with challenging market conditions, labour shortages, supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures.

The dairy company reported its third-quarter profit fell compared to a year ago.

Saputo reported a $86-million profit for the quarter ending Dec. 31, compared with a profit of $210 million a year earlier.

Revenue totalled $3.90 billion for the quarter, up from $3.76 billion in the same quarter a year earlier.

The company said the increase was due to higher international cheese and dairy ingredient market prices and higher domestic selling prices.

The Saskatchewan government said merchandise exports reached a record high of $37 billion last year, a jump of 24.7 per cent compared to 2020.

Farm and food products made up the largest share of 2021 exports, valued at $17.3 billion dollars, a jump of 6.8 per cent over 2020.

Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said Saskatchewan is providing the food, fuel, and fertilizer for growing world needs.

Metal and non-metallic mineral products jumped 312 per cent, energy products were up 73 per cent and forestry rose 60 per cent.

In an effort to expand export sales the province has eight international trade offices in China, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, U.K., United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

Three members of the Farm Credit Canada’s (FCC) Board of Directors have been reappointed.

Bertha Campbell, Govert Verstralen, and Laura Donaldson will serve three-year terms.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said these individuals come from diverse educational and career backgrounds including nursing, finance and law and are active members in their communities.
