Raiders looking to snap six-game skid tonight against Hitmen

The Prince Albert Raiders will be looking to snap their six-game losing skid when they take on the Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday.

The Raiders are 1-1 against the Hitmen this year, winning the first game 4-3 in a shoot-out on Dec. 11.

Landon Kosior earned his “Closer” nickname in that game. As time winded down in overtime, Hitmen forward Keagan Slaney emerged from the bench, skated unmarked into the slot, was fed the puck and looked almost certain to score the go-ahead goal. But Kosior read the play and lunged to block the shot, spoiling the great chance Slaney had to score on a gaping net.

That forced a shootout, in which Kosior scored the game-winning penalty shot to seal the victory for the Raiders.

The Hitmen would respond on Jan. 15 with a 4-1 victory at the Saddledome. Zach Wilson would score the Raiders’ only goal of the game, his first WHL career goal. Wilson’s goal gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead after the first period, but it was all Hitmen after that with Sean Tschigerl scoring twice and leading the way for the Hitmen.

Should Tikhon Chaika appear in Tuesday’s game, it would be his 24th straight appearance. That would set a Raiders’ franchise record — at least in the WHL internet era — breaking Rejean Beauchemin’s previous record set in 2003-04 of 23 straight appearances.

The Raiders entered the game with a 15-24-1-1 record, five points outside of the WHL Eastern Conference playoffs. The Hitmen are in seventh place with an 18-15-5-2 record.

The Raiders are running a few promotions this week. For Tuesday’s game, each ticket purchase will also include a free child’s ticket.

The Raiders are offering a fan bus package for their contest on Friday in Moose Jaw. Tickets are $65 and include admission to the game, transportation to and from Prince Albert, snacks on the bus and a $15 concession voucher at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw.
