Active cases drop below 10,000 for first time in since Jan. 14

After three weeks of active case numbers exceeding 10,000 cases, Saskatchewan’s total number of active cases has dropped to 9,981 for the first time in the last three weeks. This is a drop of 290 cases from yesterday’s total. Of these total cases, 1,949 cases are located in the six northern zones of the province.

Another four deaths were also reported bringing the provincial total to 1,005 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

Another 770 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today along with 1,057 recoveries.

Of the new cases, 215 are located in the six northern zones of the province; Far North West (26), Far North East (23), North West (53), North Central (87), and North East (26).

Just over one-third (35.2 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of February 4th, a total of 363 individuals are hospitalized. Of the 329 residents who are inpatients, 133 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 179 are incidental COVID-19 infections, and 17 have not yet been determined. Of the 33 residents in the ICUs, 23 are for COVID-19-related illnesses, and 10 are for incidental COVID-19 infections. One resident is in PICU/NICU for COVID-19-related illnesses.

Of the 363 patients, 139 (38.3 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 33 new cases on Feb. 3 in NITHA communities.

There are 68 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), five; Far North West, 16; Far North East, 23; North Central, 23; and North East, one. There have been 7,726 cases (99 per cent) have recovered, and there are two hospitalizations.
