The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation have received a significant donation thanks to a Saskatchewan couple.

Donna and Steve Kraus donated $450,000 for specialized care for children and soon-to-be moms in Saskatchewan. The funds will be used for innovative technology, research, and family centred programming.

“Auntie Donna couldn’t have children of her own, but she and Uncle Steve cared for family and they had a vision to help the future families of Saskatchewan,” said their nephew, Sheldon Kraus in a media release.

The couple and their memory will also be recognized in support of a pediatric patient room and a maternal patient room in the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

Donna and Steve first met at a dance many years ago and later created a life together in Vancouver. They enjoyed dancing together but also cared about their community. They also spent many winters in Yuma, Ariz. before moving back to Saskatchewan to be with family. In their estate planning, it was their wish to help the people of Saskatchewan. This also included TeleMiracle and Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.

“A legacy gift for Saskatchewan children can change lives today. Donna and Steve’s incredible contribution to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation will support high-priority maternal and children’s health care. They recognized that our youngest patients require specialized care for their unique needs which will impact, save lives, and inspire families for years to come,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, president and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
