The Prince Albert Police Service has announced 94 per cent of the entire police force has been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The statistics released by police report that 95 per cent of police officers are vaccinated followed by 93 per cent of civilian members, and 94 per cent of volunteers and contract workers.

“The Prince Albert Police Service has committed to mandatory testing or proof of full vaccination to ensure both safe delivery of service to the community and a safe workplace,” as stated in the release.

Police said since Oct. 12 of last year all members have been mandated to get tested weekly or provide proof of vaccination. Those who are not vaccinated were given free rapid tests to begin testing at the beginning of each week.

“The Prince Albert Police Service continues to follow Public Health guidelines around masking, distancing, and continuous sanitizing of work areas, police vehicles, equipment and the detention area. Police officers and civilian members also continue to wear masks and maintain distance in the workplace, when in the community and when working with the public as much as possible.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the police launched the Prince Albert Police Service Pandemic Plan in case COVID-19 impacted staffing. The plan entails officers from specialized or investigative units going back out on patrol to make sure the police can respond to all public calls. It did in fact, impact a number of officers which led to members from the Crime Reduction Team and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan to help in front-line patrol.

Those who enter any police stations in Prince Albert must wear a mask and police ask not to come in person if they have symptoms. The public can call in or report a crime on their website.
