P.A. Rotary Club receives Premier’s Service Club Award

Dec 29, 2021 | 5:14 PM

The Rotary Club of Prince Albert is receiving a provincial award for the positive impact they’ve had during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They’re one of two organizations receiving the 2020 Premier’s Service Club Award, joining the Knights of Columbus, Denis Mahoney Council 8215 in Saskatoon.

Keith Fonstad, president of the P.A. Rotary Club, told paNOW ever since restrictions came in they wanted to hold events to help the community keep some sense of normalcy.

“Just to give the opportunity to do something they’ve done before just in a different way.”

The biggest of all the events was their wine premiere, held virtually, which helped them raise funds for different community projects.

This includes the Little Red River Park, slated to have new playground equipment, zip line equipment, a climber, and multiple picnic tables for families to enjoy.

Meanwhile, the award also highlights everything done just after the Rotary Club celebrated its 100th anniversary on March 1, 2020.

Fonstad said their second century of work has started off on the right foot, though it will be tough to match everything done before.

“The bar’s been set pretty high to maintain that and keep moving forward, but we have a pretty engaged and healthy club right now.”

The organization is set to receive its certificate early in the new year.
