P.A. athlete brings in five medals as trek for 2022 Paralympics continues

A Prince Albert athlete is solidifying her spot on Canada’s Paralympic roster.

Skier Brittany Hudak, who has a limb deficiency, recently competed in six races at the Canmore 2021 World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup, winning four gold medals and one silver.

She was five seconds away from claiming third in the only race she didn’t medal in, the 12.5 km biathlon.

“For sure I’m gonna dwell on that one for a little while as typically most athletes would,” said Hudak.

While not 100 per cent confirmed, she believes these results should guarantee her a spot on the National Team for the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing, China. She did compete in the 2018 Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, taking home the bronze medal in the 12.5 km biathlon.

Hudak also sees these results as a positive sign about how she may compete in events moving forward.

“It just really helps me trust in the process and know we had a really great summer of training and the last couple of years training have been good as well.”

Now Hudak’s attention turns over to COVID.

Health officials are becoming more concerned with the new Omicron variant first discovered in southern Africa.

“I feel fairly safe, that we’re going to make smart decisions as we’re travelling, I think that’s all that we can do,” she added.

The plan is to compete at the Para Snow Sports World Championships in Lillehammer, Norway in January 2022. February will be filled with training for the Paralympics which are currently scheduled to happen from March 4 to 13.
