SEARCH FOR THE STARS

‘Search for the Stars’ auditions to take over EA Rawlinson Centre

Nov 20, 2021 | 8:00 AM

The city’s biggest talent competition is back for another year.

Auditions for this year’s Canadian Tire Search For The Stars take place Sunday at the EA Rawlinson Centre and is open to all young performers ages 8-18.

Marketing and Events coordinator with the EA Rawlinson Centre Cara Stelmaschuk says the auditions are open to anyone regardless of experience.

“Performers are welcome to just come in, try singing for the first time ever. We have a few that come in ready to play with an instrument and we have some bands registered as well.

“We’ve got all genres, we’ve got some musical theatre auditions this year, we’ve got some country, we’ve got some rock. We even have a few singer-songwriter contestants entered which is pretty exciting.”

Contestants will be judged in three categories based on age, with another category for singer-songwriters aged 15-18.

Bands are also welcomed to compete in the age group where most of the members belong.

The performers will take the stage under the watch of three experienced judges. They include multi-instrumentalist Jordy Balicki, singer-songwriter Allyson Reigh and local Folk-Pop artist LJ Tyson.

Those who impress the judges will move on to the next stage of the Search for Stars in January which includes a full day of workshops.

“The performers and contestants get to spend the entire day with our judges’ learning things like stage etiquette, music production, how to perform live, how to work with a band,” said Stelmaschuk.

Those workshops take place on Jan. 15, 2022, with the big showcase on Jan. 16.

“It’s a really great event, it’s such a great crowd, everyone is so excited,” said Stelmaschuk.

COVID-19 protocols will be in place for the auditions which include masking requirements and proof of vaccination for eligible visitors to the EA Rawlinson Centre.
